We're in Miami, (beeeep!!)

So after roughly:

3 hours
2 allen wrenches
1 pair of needlenose pliers
3 mistakenly read steps- apparently I’m not a good direction giver
1500 pieces
85 teeny tiny nails
A hammer

We got half of the entertainment center put together (it’s 4 pieces but we only have 3- picking up the last one today!) The TV was moved downstairs along with the Wii and Blu-Ray- the upstairs looks so EMPTY without a TV!- just in time to cuddle up on the couch and watch the Jersey Shore 2 Premiere.

Oh and of course it was Taco Thursday!

Good times.

I'm a Reader

I completely forgot to add my last book to the list so now I've got 2!

1. Finger Lickin' Fifteen- Janet Evanovich
2. The Lace Reader- Brunonia Barry
3. Julia's Chocolates- Cathy Lamb
4. Knit the Season- Kate Jacobs
5. Garden Spells- Sarah Addison Allen
6. The Sugar Queen- Sarah Addison Allen
7. Full House- Janet Evanovich
8. Full Tilt- Janet Evanovich
9. The Help- Kathryn Stockett
10. Memoirs of a Shopping Addict- Avis Cardella
11. The Girl Who Chased the Moon- Sarah Addison Allen

I had to wait on this from the library as well- it was a recommendation from Janelle who always has the best book recommendations! Sarah Addison Allen did not dissapoint once again and in fact- left me hanging on for more! I'd highly recommend her books- not in any order- as the characters are all different.

Now I need some more to read! I may be slow going this year but at least I've still got my nose in a book every now and then right?

Not Much

To report for the day.

Went to work.

Had a yummy dinner of spaghetti and meatballs at mom's house.

I ripped out the entire shawl I had started because I didn't like the edges. Trying again with a K2 YO edge on both sides. It's proving to be a great improvement.

Running tomorrow. Another 28 minutes in the bag hopefully!

Where did that weekend go?

It's back to work for these buckeyes!

We had a fabulous birthday weekend. After the amazing dinner and movie on Friday night, We joined some friends for another birthday dinner at the Ranch for my fav mexican food, and then headed over to a local bar for a night out like no other. Normally there is a fabulous band playing and it's packed. Saturday? Notsomuch. There was a band. Well, if you call yourself a band are you a band? I suppose so. This band had an ipod or something hooked up that was playing all the background music. The drums weren't drums. They were digital or something- looked like straight from Rock Band or something. And I'm pretty sure the guitar player's guitar wasn't even plugged in. The best part though, were the 2 lead singers. Who danced and sang. The most hilarious choreography. It was highly entertaining. The 2 did have good voices, I do have to admit. Too bad we spent most of the time distracted by the unusualness of the whole thing.

Sunday was spent running errands! We made some progress and got new bar stools (on sale! even better!) and they look great with the bar. Also got some frosted shelves from IKEA for behind the bar and then some picture frames and shelves for the bathroom. And we found a tv stand/unit thing as well at IKEA, will probably get that this week. It might be a tad too big but luckily it's different pieces so we can do the stand and the shelf thing that goes above, without having to do the bookshelves if they are too big.

I'm on the hunt for a LARGE map of Ohio. Large like at least 24'' x 36''. 24'' x 24'' would be okay too. I want to cut it up and frame it like this great display I saw at Ethan Allen. I will find one. Or I will improvise. Either way, my project will come to fruition!

In running news, I took the weekend off. And today was fresh. I did run for 28 minutes with a 3 minute break after 20 minutes and then finished up the rest. In total 3.10 miles (a 5K!) in 39:10 including my warmup walk and walk break.

In knitting news, I have cast on yet another project. A Simple Shawl Neck Wrap in the most fabulous shade of green ever. Malabrigo Sock yarn as well. I'm in heaven.

And here is another shot of our new couch. I love it!

and apparently Chloe approves as well. She has found her spot.

Dinner and a Movie

That's how we spent my birthday night. I managed to stay up past midnight so I can't be THAT old right???

Mr Buckeye made reservations at Grand Finale. A favorite restaurant of some of our friends but we had never had a chance to eat there. It was delightful. It's in an old house and is decorated very vintage and fancy grandma-y. Old music and draped ceilings, fancy but not too fancy. (we wore jeans) I had an Oranj Cosmo and he had his usual Stella. For entrees I had the chicken duo (I couldn't decide between the chicken ginger and the chicken and spinach.) Both were excellent but the chicken ginger was OMG delicious! Dessert was of course, the grand finale!, and we chose the "Puff". I could go on and on about this thing. A pastry puff with vanilla ice cream, homemade fudge, whip cream, and a mix of berries- strawberries, blueberries, raspberries- Don't worry those were on the side so Mr Buckeye would be able to share the dessert with me. It was an amazing way to end the meal. Truly delightful and we will be going back again!

Apres dinner, we went to the movies. My pick of course but I went easy on him and instead of Toy Story 3D or Despicable Me, I chose something a bit more age appropriate. Inception. This movie blew my mind. The first 30 minutes he leaned over and was like... you have no clue what's going on do you? of course, I definitely didn't know what was going on. But I trooped along and finally caught up. It was a great movie! One that you need to pay attention to though. I'll not go into details but I definitely recommend this movie! I'm sure we'll see it again at some point once it's out on DVD.

As for the goods, We had gone the weekend before and picked up my running loot!

Alessa at the Glendale store fitted me with a lovely pair of Adidas Supernova Glide 2 shoes and I got some new socks. Super exciting. No really. what a change from running in 100% cotton!

The new kicks! Aren't they purty? (The Nike Pegasus were even cuter but didn't feel as great as these guys) Not sure if you can see the laces but she also taught me a lacing trick called the heel lock. I always feel like my heels are slipping out of my shoes and she said she has the same issue. Heel lock FTW!

As for running. I'm still at it. I'm in Week 7- 28 minute sessions. I finished up Week 6 strong after that really rough start last weekend. I seem to be having a good run, and okay run, and a horrible run... repeat. My run on Wednesday was great. But Thursday was an epic fail. Only 15 minutes before I literally thought my leg would fall off and I would have an accident. But I consider the 15 minutes still a win but it's still a bummer because it should have been 28 minutes. I'm still on target for the half in October but I've really got to push through these last 2 weeks and get to my distance running. It scares me half to death but I'm excited to push myself.

Speaking of distance running, I got a Nike + Sportband for the birthday as well! (Thanks Mom!)

I can't wait to take this baby outside and track my progress as I transition from treadmill to outdoor running. If I want to do the half in october, I've got to learn and train to run outside and not on the perfect temp controlled treadmill!

I think I'm still going to take today off, the leg is still a bit sore so maybe a light walk just to loosen up but I think if I try to pound out 28 minutes I'll regret it and be icing and elevating all night.

Happy Weekend everyone!

The pink stuff

Yeah it pretty much saved my life yesterday. For the last 3 days or so I've had.... erm... issues. Yeah, lets just leave it at that. And I partially blame the disaster of a run on Sunday on that. So a bottle of the pink stuff later, and my hiney was on a treadmill yesterday pounding on Week 7, Day 2. I've found that cursing really helps. I'm not a runner yet. And it kills me. I did the full 25 minutes but I didn't like it.

But I'm glad I did it.

In other news, work is hellacious. I return from a long weekend (wedding recap and photos to come soon) to find 5! (are you kidding me?! 5!) people out from work. Then 3 out again today.

Hoping and praying for the week to chill out and give me a break so I can get caught up.

I want to sew tonight. Like bad.

So I'm going to.

That is all.

Jinx

I think I pretty much jinx myself everytime I talk about an awesome session. Attempted to run tonight and got my butt kicked. I'll try again tomorrow but going from an awesome 25 minute run to a 10 minute run and 10 minute walk is quite a downer.

Better luck tomorrow.

Hopefully.

At least I got some awesome running gear. Mr. Buckeye took me to The Running Spot for a shoe fitting. I got some new Adidas Supernova Glide 2 sneakers and some new socks. Followed by a trip to Dicks for a new sports bra and some running tanks. The sneakers are so light and much better than the cross trainers. I did feel a little different running in them but I'm hoping that tomorrow's run redeems me and the kicks aren't what made today not great.

In couch news, we stopped at Watson's today to find out what the eff is going on and talk to them in person. We were shown the delivery date on the computer screen- FAIL. It said 7/13. But supposedly the buyer has confirmed the container has arrived in the states and the couches are being shipped to the stores this week. We will have a phone call on Wednesday- or else- and hopefully it is good news. Mr Buckeye and I have decided that if we don't have the couch or a scheduled delivery date to our basement by next weekend, we are pulling out. Tired of playing games with these people. Lets hope for our sanity that things are actually going to work out.

Motivation is a Wonderful Thing

So this running thing may be taking over my life and my apologies to all those that are completely sick of me talking about it.

But really. I'm frickin' excited and I'm seeing so much progress I can hardly sit still.

For example- Thursday night was W6D3. And I killed it. 25 full minutes of running and no walking. Sure I ran at a measley 5.0 (12 minute mile) pace but I went the whole thing. Not to metniont that I did it at 10:30 at night AFTER the rehearsal dinner in Cleveland. Yes, while the rest of the bridal party was upstairs unwinding and getting showered and ready for bed, I hauled my cookies to the gym. I wasn't happy about it while I was running but it was the best feeling in the entire world.

To think that 1 month ago I could barely get through 90 seconds running in intervals and now I'm running 25 full minutes, I'm just amazed. Britt was totally right. Trust the program. It really does work.

I did reward myself today by taking the day off. Right shin is still a bit sore. But I'm blaming the long day yesterday. Up at 7 and bed around 2:30... plus on my feet all day in heels and dancing the night away didn't do much for my soreness. I'll be running my next session tomorrow and then picking back up to normal on Monday. Still on schedule for the Half Marathon in October and I'll be signing up officially next month! I was thinking in the beginning of this that maybe it was more than I could chew but my faith is renewed and if I can go from 0 to 2.1 miles in 6 weeks, Surely I can keep my motivation to go the distance!

Toes in the Sand, Poop in the Pool

So I headed 4 hours north to the fabulous island of Put In Bay over the weekend for Ashley's bachelorette party. It was a quick 48 hours of fun in the sun. We couldn't have asked for anything better.... well, except for one thing.

Saturday we stayed at the pool all day. Well, until the incident. One person had to go and ruin it all. They put the POO in Pool. Literally. Mr I can't hold my booze or control my bodily functions started off with a fabulous vom-fest all over the front of himself. Upon cleaning himself up with the aid of a few grossed out girls he proceeded to go cool off in the pool. Now he either really had to go, or sharted himself like it was no one's business because within a few minutes there were girls screaming to get out of the pool! FECES! IN. THE. POOL! WTF are you kidding me? He took off within moments so no one saw where he went. We happened to be roughly 10 feet away from where the incident happened and I'd be lying if I said I didn't think I needed a tetnus shot after being in that water at the time. Of course, the pool was shut down and I hope to God that they shocked the hell out of that pool. Between the tanning lotion, booze, bugs, dirt, and fecal matter, they pretty much should have just filled it with cement and started over.

Other than that minor poo-storm, the rest of the weekend was absolutely fabulous.

I didn't take my camera so the below photos are courtesy of Britt.

Bride to Be!

No photo of the pool in the pool, but here's some toes in the sand (you're welcome)

Britt and I discovered we are part-Cullen with our sparklyness

Oh yeah, and I got iced. Thanks Kristen.

Fill in the Blank Friday

1. My favorite thing about this week has been No work on Monday!

2. The weather this week has been ridiculously hot and muggy. I’m talking 90*+ and an ungodly amount of humidity.

3. The last (interesting) item I received in the mail was my Gussy pouch! Sew adorable!

4. The last movie I saw was Eclipse with Jenny, Kelly, and Kristen. Girl’s Night FTW!

5. If I could be doing anything I felt like today I would SEW SEW SEW! I’m just waiting on my new zipper foot to come in and I can finish the pillows. And I bought some awesome Amy Butler fabric for some cute purses.

6. As a teenager I was a goody-goody. Student Body President, cheerleader, you know... I was THAT GIRL.

7. I wish I could trade lives for the day with Rob Dyrdek... have you SEEN that Fantasy Factory? Way too much money and way too much time!

Run for the Hills!

Sorry folks, no tutorial yet. It will come. Soon enough.

I finally got to run yesterday after being under the weather for the past 5 days. It was okay. Nothing to write home about. I couldn’t manage to make it through at my usual 5.5 pace the whole way so I slowed it down but still managed to come through at 2.38 miles. I was relieved that I only hacked a couple of times while actually running and was pleased (and completely disgusted) by what happened when I coughed as I was driving home. (Sorry, TMI!) Seems like the congestion finally got the final heave-ho with my 30 minutes on the treadmill and I was finally able to breathe a little easier. I’m sad I missed 2 days of running, but I’m glad I gave myself time to recover without completely losing motivation.

Speaking of motivation, I managed to complete my session today at work too! The new interval scared the snot right out of me. There was no way I was going to run 8 full minutes…. 2 times! But I did it! And I managed to push myself to doing it at my 5.5 pace. The first interval went oddly well. I took my towel and covered the timer. I told myself to just listen to my music, and not worry about the time. That interval had no issues. 2nd interval wasn’t as fun. Roughly 4 minutes in I started coughing and had to take a 10 second breather. But I finished strong and made up those 10 seconds at the end. I just can’t even explain the pride you feel after accomplishing something you didn’t think you could do. The feeling is just amazing. 2.46 miles in 31 minutes. Week 5 Day 2 is complete!

We will see how Day 3 goes… 20 minutes jogging- no walking!

Should I chop my legs off now since I’m sure I’ll want to after it’s over?

Challenge? GAME ON!

So I was going to have an awesome day filled with a trip to Ikea, grocery store, pool time, Knit night...

Instead I was smacked with this:

What? Just me? I'm the only one who thinks that is a problem? Click the photo if you don't see the issue.

1 hour later, a google lookup, phone call to husband, car jacked up and down 3 times, tire iron jumped on 5 times, flat spare tire filled up... Car was fixed. BY ME!

Have no fear, I'll have a full tutorial on how to change a tire tomorrow.

Yes of course, I saw it as a blogging opportunity and took pictures along the way.

I know. Only me. I'm awesome like that.

You're welcome.

Cough Hack Spit EEEEW

I pretty much feel like a freight train is running through my chest. (Yes, my chest, not my neck- as thanks to Steph and her mom I have found out that coughing is indeed not in your neck as I had originally mentioned.) I've been coughing like crazy for the last 3 days. 3 days off of running, 3 days of Mucinex and cough drops, and last night was so ugly that Mr Buckeye had to bring me cough medicine without me asking and make me drink it.

It's been a nice long weekend and I'm super bummed to see it go. Friday night was spent watching She's out of My League (hilarious!) and Saturday was spent at the pool for me and golfing for the hubs. Finishing the night out watching fireworks and having drinks on a patio under the stars. Last night was hanging out with some friends and we had dinner at a cute little restaurant in Hyde Park- Arthurs. Cute, small, good food, good company. it was a nice time.

Today I'm trying to battle my will to run. I don't want to make it worse. But I don't want to fall off schedule, I'm already 1 run behind. It's a battle of wills, who knows what will win?

I do know that I'll be spending the rest of the day doing a myriad of things- possibly a grocery store run, some pool time, and of course Monday Knit Night!

Mr Buckeye is heading to the golf course again only this time with my dad, uncle, and grandpa. Should be interesting since it's approx one million degrees outside.

Suckers.

Major Bummer

So that coughy thing I had going on. Well, it seems to have evolved into slightly more than I thought. So as much as it pains me, I'm not running today. I've researched and researched about running and illness and everywhere I've found says to use the "neck rule". AKA if your illness is above the neck (runny nose, head cold, etc.) then you can exercise with caution, but if it's below the neck (chest congestion, body ache, etc.) then no exercise for you! I wasn't sure about a cough, considering that is in my neck- not above or below. But I'm going with below. I don't want to go pound out a run and wheeze and get myself sicker. I'll let me body heal and then hit the ground again Monday as planned. I may try and go for a long walk tomorrow just to get back up. So while I'm dissapointed that I'm not doing my session today, I am still in the mindset that I want to do this the right way. And I had a few extra days padded in my schedule for just this reason.

It still sucks though.

Break

It was a fantabulous day today. Finally a nice bit of weather to get us away from either muggy, humid, and hotter than Hades or muggy, hot, and OMG is that a monsoon?

Work rewarded us for getting us through the year with a BBQ for lunch today. We got to spend 1.5 wonderful hours out in the sunshine not working. I look forward to those. Plus it was jeans day. It's amazing what allowing your employees to dress down does for morale. I wish we have jeans days more often but I'll take what I can get.

After work we headed over to the range to hit a bucket of balls. It's been I don't know how long since I've played and I was worried that everything I had learned would go out the window. But all was well, I still topped the ball quite a bit but when I got under it and swung smoothly I had a nice draw and good loft. Plus I was hitting my driver pretty well and that is a first for me. We've decided we are going to go play this weekend- likely on Sunday morning. Just the 2 of us. I'm really looking forward to it.

Post-golf today I felt guilty. I didn't run at lunch and I didn't feel well (I've got this nasty cough thing where my voice is cracking and itchy and just eeew- plus my back hurt. Mr Buckeye was sick for about a week and I'm worried I may have caught what he had. Same symptoms- achy, sinusy, coughing, etc. only his throat didn't hurt.) But as we were driving home I had the urge to run. I didn't want to be mad at myself that I fell off schedule for even 1 day.

So I went. And I did it. It was hard, I'm not going to lie. But I decided I would stay at my 5.5 pace during my runs and push through. I managed all except the last 2 minutes of the 2nd 5 minute run. 3 minutes in I had to take a 10 second breather to finish. But I ran 10 seconds extra to make up for it. All in all a solid run. Especially considering I didn't feel well. 2.57 miles in 32:30, average pace including 5 min warmup and cool down was 4.7.

I can do this. I know I can. It's a tough road but I'm mentally coping with it and I figure that has to be at least 75% of this process.

And just so ya'll don't think I'm faking this. Here I am after the run today. Blinded by the sun, redder than a tomato, and dripping with sweat- I toweled off... I don't know how many times.

And remember when I mentioned I was THAT girl at the movie theater? You know... the one who Knits In Public? Well, this is what I started:

Yesterday was about Survival

We did it. We survived the dreaded end of month, end of year yesterday. With surprisingly minor injuries. Moving on to the new year at work. Big projects, big plans, and hopefully a big rebound in the economy. (though I doubt it)

I survived W4D2, although just barely. Runs like that bring me down but I will just lace my shoes back up and keep running. 2.43 in 30 minutes. My pace had to be dropped down to 5.2 when I got an intense cramp in my right side. It was a bummer. I’m hoping the next run will be better. I’m almost halfway through the program and super proud of myself that I’m still with it. In 1 short week I’ll be transitioning to running outside. (it’s been treadmill city so far) but I know that to really prep for half marathons and 5k races, I really need to hit the pavement, or the track, or basically anything that isn’t a moving target beneath my feet. I’ve been reading a lot about it and people say that your stride and gait is highly unnatural on a treadmill. That you can be more prone to leg injuries on a treadmill- in particular shin splints- since you are hitting a moving target and your legs have to adjust to keep your balance. Maybe that is where my shin pain is coming from? Hoping to see a difference outside but I definitely don’t want to do intervals out there. I like to have the timer in front of me for those.

I survived another girls night. (not really survival but let’s just go with it) You could say I survived the swarms of teenage girls and 40+ moms in and around the theater to see Eclipse. But let’s be honest because as soon as the movie started I pretty much became one of those teenage girls again. I mean honestly. Team Jacob? Team Edward? You pretty much can’t lose there!

I survived knitting in public. For real. I took my knitting to the theater since I knew we would be waiting. (yes, I know, I was THAT girl) K-Nun was like WTF? Oh no you are not doing that. But I did. And I got about 5 rows into a new scarf that I decided to make using the leftover 2 balls of Cool Wool. I could tell a few people were just staring (like that lady next to me) but it just made me proud. I like to think that people don’t immediately think eeeew what is she doing? And rather- wow, that’s kind of neat… in a grandmother kind of way.

So now on to the survival of the rest of the week. Shouldn’t be terrible considering there is only 1.5 days left and it wraps up with a long 3 day weekend of which we have no plans. It should be fabulous.

Happy Thursday!
