Fill in the Blank Friday

1. My favorite thing about this week has been No work on Monday!

2. The weather this week has been ridiculously hot and muggy. I’m talking 90*+ and an ungodly amount of humidity.

3. The last (interesting) item I received in the mail was my Gussy pouch! Sew adorable!

4. The last movie I saw was Eclipse with Jenny, Kelly, and Kristen. Girl’s Night FTW!

5. If I could be doing anything I felt like today I would SEW SEW SEW! I’m just waiting on my new zipper foot to come in and I can finish the pillows. And I bought some awesome Amy Butler fabric for some cute purses.

6. As a teenager I was a goody-goody. Student Body President, cheerleader, you know... I was THAT GIRL.

7. I wish I could trade lives for the day with Rob Dyrdek... have you SEEN that Fantasy Factory? Way too much money and way too much time!

Run for the Hills!

Sorry folks, no tutorial yet. It will come. Soon enough.

I finally got to run yesterday after being under the weather for the past 5 days. It was okay. Nothing to write home about. I couldn’t manage to make it through at my usual 5.5 pace the whole way so I slowed it down but still managed to come through at 2.38 miles. I was relieved that I only hacked a couple of times while actually running and was pleased (and completely disgusted) by what happened when I coughed as I was driving home. (Sorry, TMI!) Seems like the congestion finally got the final heave-ho with my 30 minutes on the treadmill and I was finally able to breathe a little easier. I’m sad I missed 2 days of running, but I’m glad I gave myself time to recover without completely losing motivation.

Speaking of motivation, I managed to complete my session today at work too! The new interval scared the snot right out of me. There was no way I was going to run 8 full minutes…. 2 times! But I did it! And I managed to push myself to doing it at my 5.5 pace. The first interval went oddly well. I took my towel and covered the timer. I told myself to just listen to my music, and not worry about the time. That interval had no issues. 2nd interval wasn’t as fun. Roughly 4 minutes in I started coughing and had to take a 10 second breather. But I finished strong and made up those 10 seconds at the end. I just can’t even explain the pride you feel after accomplishing something you didn’t think you could do. The feeling is just amazing. 2.46 miles in 31 minutes. Week 5 Day 2 is complete!

We will see how Day 3 goes… 20 minutes jogging- no walking!

Should I chop my legs off now since I’m sure I’ll want to after it’s over?

Challenge? GAME ON!

So I was going to have an awesome day filled with a trip to Ikea, grocery store, pool time, Knit night...

Instead I was smacked with this:

What? Just me? I'm the only one who thinks that is a problem? Click the photo if you don't see the issue.

1 hour later, a google lookup, phone call to husband, car jacked up and down 3 times, tire iron jumped on 5 times, flat spare tire filled up... Car was fixed. BY ME!

Have no fear, I'll have a full tutorial on how to change a tire tomorrow.

Yes of course, I saw it as a blogging opportunity and took pictures along the way.

I know. Only me. I'm awesome like that.

You're welcome.

Cough Hack Spit EEEEW

I pretty much feel like a freight train is running through my chest. (Yes, my chest, not my neck- as thanks to Steph and her mom I have found out that coughing is indeed not in your neck as I had originally mentioned.) I've been coughing like crazy for the last 3 days. 3 days off of running, 3 days of Mucinex and cough drops, and last night was so ugly that Mr Buckeye had to bring me cough medicine without me asking and make me drink it.

It's been a nice long weekend and I'm super bummed to see it go. Friday night was spent watching She's out of My League (hilarious!) and Saturday was spent at the pool for me and golfing for the hubs. Finishing the night out watching fireworks and having drinks on a patio under the stars. Last night was hanging out with some friends and we had dinner at a cute little restaurant in Hyde Park- Arthurs. Cute, small, good food, good company. it was a nice time.

Today I'm trying to battle my will to run. I don't want to make it worse. But I don't want to fall off schedule, I'm already 1 run behind. It's a battle of wills, who knows what will win?

I do know that I'll be spending the rest of the day doing a myriad of things- possibly a grocery store run, some pool time, and of course Monday Knit Night!

Mr Buckeye is heading to the golf course again only this time with my dad, uncle, and grandpa. Should be interesting since it's approx one million degrees outside.

Suckers.

Major Bummer

So that coughy thing I had going on. Well, it seems to have evolved into slightly more than I thought. So as much as it pains me, I'm not running today. I've researched and researched about running and illness and everywhere I've found says to use the "neck rule". AKA if your illness is above the neck (runny nose, head cold, etc.) then you can exercise with caution, but if it's below the neck (chest congestion, body ache, etc.) then no exercise for you! I wasn't sure about a cough, considering that is in my neck- not above or below. But I'm going with below. I don't want to go pound out a run and wheeze and get myself sicker. I'll let me body heal and then hit the ground again Monday as planned. I may try and go for a long walk tomorrow just to get back up. So while I'm dissapointed that I'm not doing my session today, I am still in the mindset that I want to do this the right way. And I had a few extra days padded in my schedule for just this reason.

It still sucks though.

Break

It was a fantabulous day today. Finally a nice bit of weather to get us away from either muggy, humid, and hotter than Hades or muggy, hot, and OMG is that a monsoon?

Work rewarded us for getting us through the year with a BBQ for lunch today. We got to spend 1.5 wonderful hours out in the sunshine not working. I look forward to those. Plus it was jeans day. It's amazing what allowing your employees to dress down does for morale. I wish we have jeans days more often but I'll take what I can get.

After work we headed over to the range to hit a bucket of balls. It's been I don't know how long since I've played and I was worried that everything I had learned would go out the window. But all was well, I still topped the ball quite a bit but when I got under it and swung smoothly I had a nice draw and good loft. Plus I was hitting my driver pretty well and that is a first for me. We've decided we are going to go play this weekend- likely on Sunday morning. Just the 2 of us. I'm really looking forward to it.

Post-golf today I felt guilty. I didn't run at lunch and I didn't feel well (I've got this nasty cough thing where my voice is cracking and itchy and just eeew- plus my back hurt. Mr Buckeye was sick for about a week and I'm worried I may have caught what he had. Same symptoms- achy, sinusy, coughing, etc. only his throat didn't hurt.) But as we were driving home I had the urge to run. I didn't want to be mad at myself that I fell off schedule for even 1 day.

So I went. And I did it. It was hard, I'm not going to lie. But I decided I would stay at my 5.5 pace during my runs and push through. I managed all except the last 2 minutes of the 2nd 5 minute run. 3 minutes in I had to take a 10 second breather to finish. But I ran 10 seconds extra to make up for it. All in all a solid run. Especially considering I didn't feel well. 2.57 miles in 32:30, average pace including 5 min warmup and cool down was 4.7.

I can do this. I know I can. It's a tough road but I'm mentally coping with it and I figure that has to be at least 75% of this process.

And just so ya'll don't think I'm faking this. Here I am after the run today. Blinded by the sun, redder than a tomato, and dripping with sweat- I toweled off... I don't know how many times.

And remember when I mentioned I was THAT girl at the movie theater? You know... the one who Knits In Public? Well, this is what I started:

Yesterday was about Survival

We did it. We survived the dreaded end of month, end of year yesterday. With surprisingly minor injuries. Moving on to the new year at work. Big projects, big plans, and hopefully a big rebound in the economy. (though I doubt it)

I survived W4D2, although just barely. Runs like that bring me down but I will just lace my shoes back up and keep running. 2.43 in 30 minutes. My pace had to be dropped down to 5.2 when I got an intense cramp in my right side. It was a bummer. I’m hoping the next run will be better. I’m almost halfway through the program and super proud of myself that I’m still with it. In 1 short week I’ll be transitioning to running outside. (it’s been treadmill city so far) but I know that to really prep for half marathons and 5k races, I really need to hit the pavement, or the track, or basically anything that isn’t a moving target beneath my feet. I’ve been reading a lot about it and people say that your stride and gait is highly unnatural on a treadmill. That you can be more prone to leg injuries on a treadmill- in particular shin splints- since you are hitting a moving target and your legs have to adjust to keep your balance. Maybe that is where my shin pain is coming from? Hoping to see a difference outside but I definitely don’t want to do intervals out there. I like to have the timer in front of me for those.

I survived another girls night. (not really survival but let’s just go with it) You could say I survived the swarms of teenage girls and 40+ moms in and around the theater to see Eclipse. But let’s be honest because as soon as the movie started I pretty much became one of those teenage girls again. I mean honestly. Team Jacob? Team Edward? You pretty much can’t lose there!

I survived knitting in public. For real. I took my knitting to the theater since I knew we would be waiting. (yes, I know, I was THAT girl) K-Nun was like WTF? Oh no you are not doing that. But I did. And I got about 5 rows into a new scarf that I decided to make using the leftover 2 balls of Cool Wool. I could tell a few people were just staring (like that lady next to me) but it just made me proud. I like to think that people don’t immediately think eeeew what is she doing? And rather- wow, that’s kind of neat… in a grandmother kind of way.

So now on to the survival of the rest of the week. Shouldn’t be terrible considering there is only 1.5 days left and it wraps up with a long 3 day weekend of which we have no plans. It should be fabulous.

Happy Thursday!
