Higher Than A Kite

Did you know that the St. Louis Arch is the tallest National Monument in the US at 630 ft?

Yeah, we went all the way up to the top... and I almost threw up.

But I didn't.

It was amazing.

Let them eat cake...

So traditionally the bride and groom save the top tier of their wedding cake for their first year of marriage and share a slice on the one year anniversary. Being the traditionalist that I am (hah!) I was not to be without sharing in this experience. Mom was gracious enough to wrap it in layers upon layers of plastic wrap (thanks mom!) and seal it in the box while we were honeymooning in Jamaica and tucked itaway in the freezer till 10-6-08 rolled around. I pulled the cake out on Sunday and let it thaw in the fridge. After our delicious dinner at El Rancho Grande (it was awesome- don't knock it!) we headed home to have our cake. (letting it sit out on the counter for about an hour) It was surprisingly good! We had some mint chocolate chip ice cream to go along with it. I was pretty stuffed but Patrick ate an entire piece of the year old wedding cake so it must not have been too bad!
Now we still have the hunks of main cake still in the freezer... anyone want some?

1 Year Later

On this day last year, I married the man of my dreams.

My Favorite Season

Autumn, Fall, Indian Summer.

By far my most favorite season the entire year!

It is finally cool today, maybe not even 65* and I couldn't be happier in my big knit cardigan. If it were this time last year I would be making last minute preparations for our wedding and praying for a little drop in temperature. Thats right, this time last year we were soaring in the high 80's. Thank you global warming!

Fall is cooler temperatures, leaves changing colors, apple picking, pumpkin picking, FOOTBALL, warm sweaters, baking, hay rides, corn mazes, I could go on and on and on!

Sure it may be the busiest time of the year for Patrick and I as we have something planned for typically ever weekend in the fall but we wait for this time of year to come for the first 8 months of spring and summer.

Now with the season in full effect I can start doing some season changes- the most fun for me is the decorating and the baking! I can't wait to make a Pumpkin Roll and Pumpkin Zuccini Bread! (They are delicious I promise!)

Of Course I will share with you... maybe. If there is enough.

I'm Crafty!

Referring back to Brit's original post:

"we have a really beautiful tradition in our family. whenever there is a new baby coming, every family member is sent a blank square of fabric and we decorate it however we want. then all the squares get made into a quilt for the baby."

I have been lucky enough to be welcomed into this tradition and Patrick and I now have another quilt square to add to our portfolio. The last 2 we were a part of were absolutely adorable and I can't wait to see the final product for Luca!

Bet you didn't expect that design huh?

A Very Blustery Day!

We returned from Columbus yesterday to find that we were in the middle of a windstorm! With no power! As of 10:50am today we still don't have power. So much for the food in the refrigerator. Guess a shopping trip will be in order.

Here is a little preview of the havoc that we have seen here in our neck of the woods.

We were extremely lucky and this was the most damage we had:

But right down the street our neighbors weren't so lucky.

Neither was the lady down the street from my mom.

It was bad. Real bad.

My mom's happens to have power (miraculously came on this morning even though across the street and surroundings still are black) so I'm holding it down here to charge up. Cross your fingers we will be back soon!
