Bookworm? Not quite...

So it's no secret that I love the read. But I've noticed that I've spent less and less time doing so.

Back in 2008 I read 30 books. (I finished New Moon and Eclipse before the end of the year)
Last year I read 26 books.

This year thus far I'm at a measley 4 books. Seriously? 4? That's it?! Perhaps it is because I haven't found a new series that I can pour myself into. Each year I've had at least 1 series. 2008 was all about Sophie Kinsella and the Shopaholic series. Last year it was Harry Potter and Stephanie Plum. This year it's.... ? I've got nothing!

Perhaps I've just devoted more time to knitting? I'm not sure. I'm definitely always on the hunt for a good book. I love getting recommendations but if the cover and first few sentences don't grab my attention (especially if I've never read that author before) then it's back on the shelf you go. I don't really have much patience to try and "get in" to the story. I'm kind of like Project Runway. You're In. Or you're Out. That's it.

Here is my pipsqeak list for 2010. I need to add more to this. Like soon.

1. Finger Lickin' Fifteen- Janet Evanovich
2. The Lace Reader- Brunonia Barry
3. Julia's Chocolates
4. Knit the Season- Kate Jacobs

I am highly anticipating the newest memoir by one, Ms. Jen Lancaster. That for sure will be at the top of my list once it is released next month. And sure I've still got a few books at home that I haven't read but nothing strikes my fancy right now. I've got My Sister's Keeper (I've had this book since my Sophomore year in college and never made it through more than 4 chapters... sad, I know.) Middlesex, Bringing Down the House... and others. But alas, I still have nothing to read.

Any recommendations? I'm on the waiting list for The Help at the library. I've heard amazing wonderful things about it and the fact that I'm number 192739201 on the wait list speaks volumes as well.

What's the best book you've read recently? How about the best book ever?

Take a look at my reading lists from the last 2 years... what would you recommend for me?

(And Britt- I tried the Extremely Loud book... I made it through 5 pages before I put it down. Shameful. Yes I know.)

  2. Oooh I'm reading The Help right now- just started. Tori Spelling's new book comes out June 15th! I have The Art of Racing in the Rain in my stack of books to finish- so far it's good.

  3. Hmmm ... based on those books, you like female-centered stories about life. I'll suggest:

"Hypocrite in a Poofy White Dress" = fabulosity

"Eat, Pray, Love" = making you want to quit your life and move to Italy

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series = wonderful

"Time-Traveler's Wife" = spend your last 25 minutes of the book sobbing

And because no recommendation list of mine is complete without a Steve King book: "Lisey's Story" -- It's a love story, but only the way King can tell it.

  4. You need to pick up Garden Spells, Sugar Queen and The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen! I promise you'll love them...and they're quick reads!

Oh and if you love funny books, pick up anything by Christopher Moore. My favorites are Fool and Lamb but I've read them all. I have his newest one, Bite Me, sitting on my shelf. I need to get through The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo before I get to it.
