Snotorious B.I.G '11

So everyone else seems to be commenting on the weather situation that is just crushing the midwest, actually 1/3 of the US right now.

Of course, Cinci is no different.

Now, I won't tell you about the layer of ice that is covering our Roof and Christmas Lights... that would mean admitting that our Christmas Lights are still up... and it is now February.

However, I will mention that I did venture outside once on Tuesday and almost went ass over elbows in a lame effort to collect the mail. Our driveway has been replaced by an ice luge that would have sent me shooting through the caul-de-sac faster than Clark Griswold and his non-caloric silicon based kitchen lubricant buffed saucer.

There wasn't anything but junk mail in there anyway- so not worth the risk.

What holiday movie keeps you laughing every single year?

Me against the snapper

So the big snowstorm that cut a hole in our staff meeting plans did come as expected. I got to work remotely on Thursday which was a good thing considering we got approximately 5 inches of snow and the commute would have been brutal.

Of course, the Mr. was out of town and I wanted to do something good so I decided to tackle the driveway. We do have a snowblower after all!

Only the snowblower did not agree with my plan for a quick and speedy task. I put gas in it, primed it, moved the choke, and pulled... and pulled... and pulled. For 20 minutes and the damn thing just would not start. At that point the neighbor got home and came over to help. He took the spark plug out and cleaned it... nothing, pulled and pulled... nothing. Then he checked the gas tank. Apparently my depth perception sucks because I ended up pouring almost the whole gas container into it. Then he pulled again... started! And then stopped. He ended up getting it started for me and I went on my merry way.

Time to start the snowblower- almost 40 minutes
Time to plow the driveway- Maybe 15 minutes?

It was me against the Snapper and I totally won.

Only now this morning I wake up to an aching back and a right arm that literally wants to fall off my body.

Touche Snapper- you won.

Pretty snow, sparkles like diamonds

Sidenote: It's official, I am totally out of shape and must get body to the gym and on a machine ASAP!

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

And caused our power to go out twice yesterday.

And yet the roads are completely clear and free from snow today.

And yet the kids still had school cancelled.

Pansies...

I mean, ouch, that was kind of mean. I am really just jealous of their snow day.

In all reality we had a good weekend (save for the power outage) Went to Best Buy and dinner on Friday night, more shopping on Saturday followed by a night on the town with some friends, followed up on Sunday by doing absolutely nothing except laying in PJs all day until 5 when we braved the storm to go get some groceries.

At least the snowblower got it's first round of activity for Winter 2010/2011!

When Will It Stop!

I'm over the snow. It was fun in the beginning but it needs to be gone!

Since the hubs is out of town this week, the snow clearing duties fell on me yesterday. I am so glad I learned how to use the snowblower last week! Makes clearing the driveway a snap and it's actually kind of fun :)

I give you the before... you can't tell but that is approx 5 inches of snow on the driveway.

and after my handywork! That Snapper is my new best freind :)

We didn't bring the patio furniture in this winter... oops!

Chloe was curious for about 3.2 seconds before she touched the snow, shivered, then hauled ass to the register to get warm again.

Hope you are all staying warm and dry out there!

Baby it's cold outside!

Yes, the white death did come. And in fact is still coming. I'm typing up this lovely post a day early (it's currently 6:00 on Thursday) since I got to leave work at 1:30. The roads weren't as treacherous as I had imagined but only because I was north of the city. I heard on the news of a bad accident that backed traffic up and was adding over an hour to the commute just on that highway. Of course the back roads were a hot mess and I love that the snow plow will come down the hill through our neighborhood only to take a big left before they hit the caul-de-sac so it's like a big black (white) hole that wants to gobble up my car.

photo taken at 2:00pm

But since I had some time on my hands I decided to organize! My stash that is. My yarn stash. Online. On Ravelry! I set up a photo studio in my craft room (which is totally cleaned up and put together! A before and after post at some point but I'm still picking a paint color and I don't know that I want to embarrass myself with the before photos- it was atrocious in there!) based on a tutorial I saw here. And I snapped away! I'll be sharing those photos at some point but I'll spread out for more posts and to keep you in suspense. I know you can hardly resist photos of projects and yarn! But hey this is my joint and I'll post what I want. (but please don't leave. I love you my readers!)

Looks simple but it worked!

And since I have a great friend, (and fellow Cookie!) who is dying to see what I've got in the works for her, I'll share just this one photo from my impromtu shoot yesterday.
Pantalones

Yes, those are pants. For a little boy named B. Who turned 1 on Saturday. They are far from perfect but I hope they will be darling on his little tooshie! (and keep those buns warm over there in IL!)
Alright, I'm going to go make dinner and turn the fireplace on and hunker down in my Snuggie with my knitting. I'm hoping that when this posts in the morning I'll still be at home in said position with a snow day from work!

Update: Unfortunately, I am at work today. But at least it is Friday!

It's Coming!

The "white death" that is.

It has slowly begun to turn white outside but the snow has yet to really fall. We are expecting it to happen some time between now and noon. Something like an hour an inch for at least 5 hours? Great. The commute home should be fabulous. My normally lovely 15 minute drive will take me at least an hour. Fantastic.

291 Closings so far. A local school had called a 2 hour delay last night before 6:00pm. That is just ridiculous. And of course, they are closed today- 2nd time this week. I remember waiting up as late as I could the night before and sitting in front of the tv in the morning as long as possible before I had to get ready in hopes I would see on the bottom line that school will be delayed, or even better- cancelled. Now it's as if there may be a possibility of a little but of snow then all hell breaks loose and schools call off.

Call me crazy but I think it's just absurd.

Knit Night

I just want to reiterate again how much I love knit night at Lambikin's Hideaway. It could be a table full of women or only 3 of us and we still have a blast. They are the most amazing talented women I have ever met and I am so blessed to be a part of the group. In a way I feel like I'm living a little part of The Friday Night Knitting Club. Only we aren't in NY, and I don't make pocketbooks, and someone isn't getting married. But really. It's kind of like the book. and I like it.

I finished a present last night but I can't share until after it is gifted. (it's impressive though!) and started another gift last night as well. Crossing my fingers it will be finished in time for their birthday. I'll just have to set aside my other 10284628 projects and get to work! I'll give you a hint though- it is lace! I've only done 1 other lace project and I'm in need of some small needles and yarn- though I'll be cursing it by the end I'm sure!

Hopefully Father Winter will ease up a bit after work, I need to do a serious grocery binge and I'd rather do it now before the big storm comes on Thursday! Schools were already closed today and it wasn't even that bad. So I'm sure they are going to be making up days in the summer if they are already out on Jan 5!

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

I swear I saw 1 billion birds this morning. It was insanity. Fighting for spots on the wires and then attacking each other in the air. I could have been driving on set of The Birds. They must be terribly confused because of the nice weather and then they wake up this morning to frost on their wings. I enjoy a good bout of cold weather, myself, but I'd like a little holiday white stuff to go along with it. You hear that Santa? I'd like a bit of snow if you please. Not a lot, just a bit will do. If it's going to be cold I don't want to look at dead grass and salt covered parking lots. Help a sistah out would ya?!

So I got about 1/2 done in terms of wrapping last night. I'll say that my back started to hurt so I'll be moving to the table tonight to keep wrapping. But in reality I got distracted by a little show called The Sing Off. I'm a huge fan of Glee and a real life version?!? Be still my heart. Those Nota guys really kill it and I'm not so sure what I think of MaxxFactor. Kinda scary yet I wass mesmerized the whole time. I'm pretty sure during the guilty pleasures section I didn't stop smiling for a solid 30 minutes. And on tonight? I heard they are singing Journey. I just can't wait. The opening of Glee featured Don't Stop Believing, and I'm curious to see what group will rock out to one of my favorite bands... and what song???

In other news- only 4 days of work left for 2009!
