Quick update: W4D1 yesterday. That was empoweing. I though for sure there would be no way I could make it. And I did. The progression of the program is fantastic. Who knows where I would be without it. 2.48 miles in 31:30 (including 5 minute warmup and cooldown walk)
I'd say roughly 11ish minute miles? I haven't timed myself yet to see since I'm just focusing on the running. 11 min miles would just blow my mind!
In knitting news, I finished my Hey Teach Cardigan!
Pictures to follow once it is blocked- but let me tell you- it. is. awesome!

Put a sweater on... your beer!
My cousin Brandon returned home from Iraq last month after his third? fourth? tour. Who knows, I lost count.
He is totally awesome and the biggest Indianapolis Colts fan I know.
He saw my winning entry from the Speed Knitting competition at the Knitting Olympics and requested one for himself- only a Colts jersey if possible.
I happily obliged and chose a different sweater cozie pattern and modified it to include a bit of fair isle colorwork of my own design :)
It's a bit late considering I started back in March and it hibernated a while, but it's in plenty of time for football season.
I think he'll like it.

Sidenote: C25K = Couch to 5 k
W3D3: (week 3, day 3) Saturday- MUCH better turnout compared to the dissapointing run on Thursday. I ran intervals of 5.5 and 6.0 with walking at 4.0. final: 2.1 miles in 28 minutes.

Fill in the Blank Friday
1. If I could choose my last meal it would be My mom’s meatloaf, with mashed potatoes and green beans. Or Skyline Chili- a 3way and a cheese coney please!
2. My favorite person to share a meal with is my family (usually) because, the company is fantastic and I usually end up in tears with a sore belly because I’ve been laughing so hard .
3. The best meal I've ever had was a burger from the burger bar in St. Louis. OMG I could have eaten 10 of them. Amazing!
4. The one food that makes me feel instantly better when I'm having a bad day is ice cream. Reminds me of the days when Papa used to tell me I could have ice cream for breakfast whenever I wanted to at his house .
5. My absolute specialty in the kitchen is I make a mean buffalo chicken dip and pasta salad. Pretty much party-type foods and I’m getting pretty good at the crock-pot but don’t tell my mom .
6. The city that has the best food is LA. So much variety and independent ships and my favorite restaurant there is I don’t remember the name but they had the best garlic ball things I’ve ever had. It’s in Santa Monica I believe
7. My favorite healthy snack is apples with peanut butter...have it every morning!
8. In my opinion the nationality which has the best food is Italian. You can’t go wrong with good wine and lots of carbs!
9. If I could learn to cook anything in the world (and be really good at it!) I'd choose healthy “home-cookin”. You know, basics that could translate to different meals. I’m kind of a dummy and need to follow recipes to the T. I’d like to be able to just create something tasty on my own! .
10. The most outrageous dessert I've ever had was My Trifle is pretty much awesome. 6 layers of peanut butter, chocolate cake, cool whip, butterfingers, and chocolate pudding. ::droooooool::

Week 3. Almost done!
One good thing about being so frickin frustrated about something is that I can now go pound it out on the treadmill. Though yesterday I was disappointed and proud of myself at the same time. Wednesday I completed W3D1 and survived. It was hard, but it was doable. I got home yesterday and listened to the message from the sales person- the shipment is scheduled to arrive “around the 12th”. GRRRRR. Between that- deadlines and madness at work (but this is a good thing, just stressful) I loaded up my gym bag and headed to the Y. I am proud of myself that I pulled myself off the couch and computer (I sterted getting distracted) and actually drove over there and completed W3D2 but I’m disappointed that at one point about 2 minutes into my second 3 minute run interval I had to grab the machine and stop for about 4 seconds. I ran the extra 4 seconds at the end to make up for it but I’m just irritated at myself that I couldn’t get through that last minute. I mean really- it’s only 60 seconds. But I could attribute it to the fact that I haven’t done a back to back run with no day break in between yet.
My shins were crying a little bit but I felt great. I was definitely a little bit sore this morning so I know it’s working. I’m taking today off and will be ready to complete week 3 tomorrow morning. Then I will be off to Week 4 where the run intervals are 3 and 5 minutes! GAH! I may have to repeat the last session of week 3 to prepare. I’m still on schedule for my half marathon but I’m still at the point where 13.1 miles seems unreachable. But I’ll get there. One step at a time.
My birthday is coming up in just 4 short weeks so I may want to go get fitted for shoes. Mr Buckeye told me to go this weekend but I don’t know that I will. My mode of thinking tells me to put it off as long as I can since I have shoes and they aren’t worn out, but his mode of thinking is that if it will help me now, why wait? Who knows. We shall see.
W3D1- 1.96 miles 3.8/5.5 intervals 28 minutes
W3D2- 2.07 miles 4.0/5.5 intervals 28 minutes

Couch Potato
Ugh, the ugly cloud of irritability has formed overhead again.
We’ll get through it again, it’s all so meaningless anyway. But let’s address the main problem shall we?
The frackin’ couch.
You’ve got to be kidding me. This damn this might be the death of my summer. Remember when we bought it back in April? And how we were so excited it would be in at the end of May? And how that turned into the end of June? Well I’ll be. It has changed again. As of Sunday when I called my sales guy he said we were still on schedule for the shipment to come in on 6/25 but that he would call me and confirm on Tuesday AM. He called. But to tell me that we were still on schedule for the shipment, but that it would be on July 12. EXCUSE ME? So I picked up the phone and called again. Of course, my sales guy wasn’t there so I just asked someone else to look up the order and tell me what’s going on. What does he tell me? That he sees we have been delayed and that we are on the edge of the next shipment coming in (WTF?!) and that shipment is scheduled to be there BETWEEN July 13 and July 28. OMFG! All I want is for someone to tell me the truth. He said he would put me through to my sales guys voicemail so that he could call me back but I asked instead to speak with someone else as the sales guy has been “less than satisfactory” throughout the whole experience. I left a message for the sales manager. He is supposedly back to work today and I should get a call. We shall see about that. We went couch shopping last night again and found the same couch, same manufacturer, slightly different setup at another location. But it was more expensive, power recline only, no chaise, and they wouldn’t split it up so we could get the pieces we needed. So that was out. We did find another with a slightly different look. (more lounge-y) like something you would see in a bar. But it’s still really comfy but not in that come here and sit on me all day and veg out. More like come sit and hang out with friends on me vibe. It doesn’t have recliners but it does have the chaise on one side and an ottoman that everyone could put their feet up on. It would save us roughly $500 and it is in stock meaning we could have it on the next delivery truck. But what to do what to do. We just loved the other couch and we don’t want buyers remorse because we couldn’t wait any longer. Where do you draw the line?
Here is the new potential couch. Cute no? (click the pic to embiggen)

I'm a Reader
Hooray! I can add another lovely literary masterpiece to my list!
1. Finger Lickin' Fifteen- Janet Evanovich
2. The Lace Reader- Brunonia Barry
3. Julia's Chocolates4. Knit the Season- Kate Jacobs
5. Garden Spells- Sarah Addison Allen
6. The Sugar Queen- Sarah Addison Allen
7. Full House- Janet Evanovich
8. Full Tilt- Janet Evanovich
9. The Help- Kathryn Stockett
I just loved this book. Honestly. It was so fantastic. The characters, the speech, the story, I just couldn't get enough.
Truly worth the wait for me and I'm so thrilled to be able to add it to my list of books for 2010.
I've started Spent: Memoirs of a Shopping Addict by Avis Cardella
I like it already. Another non-fiction memoir type book. I read an exceprt in a magazine I think and immediately requested it from the library. I think it will be a quick read.
And my mother in law gave me a copy of Eat Pray Love over the weekend so that will be read soon as well! (She figures I'll read it before she will so it's on loan to me. I won't dissappoint! After Spent, I'll pick it up!)

Whew!
Whew! What a weekend! It was 3 days but I swear it went by quicker than normal.
I got my run in on Thursday in time for all the visitors and the super busy weekend. I would have knocked out session 6 on Saturday morning but given that we had spent roughly 6 hours at the zoo on Friday, I didn’t feel my legs were up to it. Then had to postpone again Sunday because I was recovering from the bachelorette party in CBus on Sat night. But luckily today, I finished session 6. My legs are sore though. In particular my shins. I’ll not take a 3 day break again. It just seems like it’s too long. But I can completely cross off week 2 of the C25K. I’m liking the program still and ready to get into switching up some of the intervals.
In total today- Session 6= 2.27 miles. (alternated 5.8 run and 3.8-4.0 walk)
Photos to share this week. Plenty of twin cuteness and bachelorette madness.
But for now I’m slammed with projects and deadlines to meet by next Thursday!

Sad day for Ohio
Session 4- SMASHED!
I was going to repeat session 3 since it was my first C25K run during lunch and I wasn’t sure if I could do it. But I decided it was doable and I needed to think I could do it. I adjusted my pace back down to 3.7/3.9 walks with 5.5 runs and I made it through the whole thing! 2.15 Miles in total including warmup and cool down walks. Britt is totally right- trust the program. I actually FELT better today. I wasn’t staring at the timer the whole time and just jogging away. I can do this.
So I know everyone probably knows already but I’m sad to report that a national landmark in Ohio is no more (sad face). The Solid Rock “King of Kings” aka Touchdown Jesus aka Big Butter Jesus was struck by lightning Monday night and resulting in him bursting to flames and now nothing stands but a frame of metal.
I don't want to attract hate comments and the like. I am merely mentioning it because as a national landmark that stood only 15 minutes from my house, I'm going to miss driving up north and seeing it. Just one of those things that you think will pretty much always be there.
Some folks are saying it is a sign from God that it got struck by lightning, others say merely a coincidence. Some say it's disrespectful, others say it is inspirational and a reminder of faith.
I don't know exactly what I think, other than I'm sad it's gone. But why? I'm not sure.
Guess we will just settle for having the largest basket in the country resting in Ohio.
Longaberger HQ in Newark
(I kinda like the Big Butter Jesus better)
PS- Haywood Banks has added another verse to his song! I'm not sure where to find it but I know it's out there...

Forgive me
For the daily running updates. But I feel it's necessary to ensure that I stick with it in the beginning till it becomes routine. The last thing I want is to get lazy and off track. This is important.
I thought I wouldn't be able to run today- meeting at work (and now I get super sweaty and gross so if I run during lunch it will be an ordeal now- will take shower supplies and have to shower post run.) and of course it is knit night.
Well I think I've found the solution so that I can still run on Mondays rather than cram 2 2day in a row runs every week. I can either
a.) run at work during lunch if I don't have any meetings- pack the bag on Sunday so I have all my toiletries and there are no excuses.
b.) do what I did tonight- the gym is open till 10pm! YAY! So if I don't run at lunch, I'll leave Knit night at 8:30ish like I did tonight, then go to the gym right afterwards!
It honestly wasn't too terrible. I told myself the whole drive home that I would check online to see when they closed and if it said 10- I had to get my butt dressed and out the door. Well, it was 10. so up and out I went!
I tried the 4.0/6.0 again. Not quite a success I had to walk twice at 3.7 because I was cramping up in my stomach. But I redeemed myself with the final run at a 7.0 to make up for it.
Final mileage count for the session: 2.23!
I won't try to keep adding mileage but right now I'm trying to get my footing and I really like seeing the number grow- it's a motivational thing for me.
PS- I found I really like running to Blink 182. In particular the Take off your Pants and Jacket album. It's catchy :)

Toasted Nuts
hahaha I couldn't resist.
But yes. This buckeye is toasted. I'm pretty much a lobster thanks to a bit of cloudy overcast that decided to fry my ignorant self since I wasn't wearing sunscreen the first hour or so I was at the pool.
I'm paying for it today. Slathered enough Aveeno on myself I feel like I've been swimming in Crisco. And even my nice cotton oversized wrap feels like needles and sandpaper.
I'll never learn I suppose.
Busy busy week ahead of us. Preparing for a visit from the fam up north and then headed to Columbus for a night of bachelorette fun.
I did still get some knitting done though! That cardigan is almost done- just need a button and finish the button band- it's on the agenda for tonight's knit night.
And I managed to knock out an entire shawletter/neck wrap thing over the weekend.
This:

Nothing like a little instant gratification project to keep you hooked on knitting!

Wet
It is pouring rain outside and has been since last night. And supposedly it's not going to stop for another 6 or 7 days. I pretty much should just rename this town Forks. If I do, will Taylor Lautner show up at my door??? (please???)
Those bumpy brown things on my arms... those are sleeves! I pretty much have a sleeve phobia when it comes to knitting. It's a downfall and seriously hinders my ability to finish garments. To this day, those are the first sleeves I have actually finished. I have a mega sweater (super chunky yarn) that is currently missing (literally, I can't find it), but it isn't wearable anyway because only 1.4 sleeves are done. There is also a luscious checked hoodie that is missing 1.7 sleeves, and a hood. And it's a standing joke amongst all the girls about my fear of sleeves and them kidnapping me and not letting me go till I finish all my unfinished sleeves!
But not those babies! The cardigan just needs to have the sleeves sewn on (I'll be doing that during the world cup game today) and then the button band. A good blocking and a button and she will be ready to wear!!! YAY!
(Forgive the terribleness that is my hair. I did also just finish a 2.18 mile session :) so thumbs up to that too!)
Have a great weekend!
But rain can't keep me down because I'm still rocking and rolling.
I went to the gym today (while Britt was running her first 5K! Way to go Britt!) and did session 2 of C25K. I upped my pace for running and managed to keep that up, and I tried to up my walk pace but that only lasted about 7 minutes because I just couldn't catch my breathe. So I alternated 3.7 and 4.0 walk pace with 6.0 run pace. All in all I went 2.18 miles in the 30 minutes (including 10 minutes of warm up and cool down walking) It was definitely more challenging my running at a faster pace. Only 1 more run left in this pattern so my goal is to do a solid 4.0 walk and 6.0 run the whole way through. We will see on Sunday/Monday!
Also big news. (at least for me it is!)

Smashed it!
I successfully completed session 1 of Couch to 5K.
I'd say I smashed it!
Britt assured me to trust the program and it will work. Alternating 60 sec. of running and 90 sec of walking was a bit annoying because I felt like I could run longer but I went with it and completed the session. I alternated between 3.7 walk and 5.5 run. (Yes, I was on the dreadmill...) I didn't want to push too much on the first one to make sure it was doable. I know now that I can and next session I will up my speed slightly. In total I ran/walked 2.1 miles. (5 minute warm up and cool down included)
Post run, we had Tacos. It is afterall, TACO THURSDAY.
Now catching up on some DVR and laundry and cleaning up the kitchen. Oh the joys of being a grownup.

Randomness
I pretty much dressed like a waiter today. Black pants. White button up. Black vest. Black shoes. How would you like that steak cooked ma'am?
I'm currently enjoying a delicious screwdriver in a fancy glass thanks to Mr Buckeye.
The Machine Shed in IA has this giant cinnamon roll thing that looks out of this world.
Enchiladas are cooking in the oven. Delicious.
We are about to start a 3 hour Mad Men marathon so that we can send it back to Netflix. I mean, it's only been a week.
The run tonight will be postponed since I was at work late. And if I tried to run outside I might drown. It's so hot and sticky and muggy out. You could probably cut the air with a knife.

Sex and the Sippy Cup
So over the weekend the girls and I headed out for a little girls night. Enough of our husbands getting together 2+ times a week for golf. It was our turn. We decided to have a nice dinner at PF Changs (Orange Peel Chicken? NOM!) With girly beverages (The Pink Bellinis were super yummy!) followed with a night at the movies. Of course we chose to see Sex and the City 2. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m not a die-hard, seen every episode, kind of girl and I liked it better than the first one. Perhaps because it was a bit more theatrical? And the rugby?polo? players didn’t hurt much either!
But one of my favorite parts of the movie (don’t worry, no spoilers here, was during a particularly steamy scene. During which the 4 YEAR OLD LITTLE GIRL sitting right behind me started yelling “I CAN’T SEE! I CAN’T SEE!” Seriously? I kid you not. There was a little girl in the theater. Brought by her (I assume) parents, and sister. 4 years old (I’m guessing here… but I was with 2 friends that are moms and they said she was probably only like 3 or 4 years old) and they thought taking her to see SEX and the City was a good idea? She was yelling because Like the good mom that she was, she was covering the girl’s eyes. WTF?!?!
This particular favorite was only topped by another where I became completely distracted by the fact she was prancing in the aisle and kept hitting my seat, jarring me forwards and backwards. But rest assured, there is more. During one of the said gallops across the seats she proceeds to knock over a pop- spilling it alover and I assume losing her balance. Well, it was only natural then that she would GRAB. MY. HEAD! Hello? Anyone else see a problem here?
Overall she was very well behanved and only had a few breakout moments, but knowing that there was an inappropriately aged little girl behind me, made the whole experience a bit uncomfortable.
Parenting: FAIL.

I'm a Reader
My reading list is slowly growing. Maybe I'll hit 20 this year?
1. Finger Lickin' Fifteen- Janet Evanovich
2. The Lace Reader- Brunonia Barry
3. Julia's Chocolates
4. Knit the Season- Kate Jacobs
5. Garden Spells- Sarah Addison Allen
6. The Sugar Queen- Sarah Addison Allen
7. Full House- Janet Evanovich
8. Full Tilt- Janet Evanovich
And I finally got my turn to pick up The Help by Kathryn Stockett from the library. I picked it up yesterday and I'm already about 70 pages in. Would have been more but we wen't golfing last night :) I'm already in love with the characters and know that I will pour myself into this book and love every minute of it.
I've also got Spent: Memoirs of a Shopping Addict, All We Ever Wanted Was Everything, and Full Speed on my nightstand to keep me reading through the next month!
As always, what are you reading that I must know about?!?

Fill in the Blank Friday
1. My dream vacation would be Europe. Absolutely. Positively. Without a Doubt! I was a French minor in college and would love to be able to experience the people and places I learned about. Or Hawaii- with no chance of sunburn.
2. The best trip I've ever taken was Honeymoon. To Jamaica. Sure it was hurricane season and it rained all but 1 day but it was still one of the best times of my life.
3. The most important items to take on a road trip are a good book, a bit of knitting, and my laptop. And you know, the essentials like toothbrush, clean underwear, deodorant.
4. The next trip I'm looking forward to is We don’t have any big trips planned right now but we have talked about taking a trip around our anniversary again this year. For now, looking forward to summer weekends in the sun!
5. If I had to pick one CD to listen to for a long road trip it would be Hello! It’s called an I-POD! But if we have to stick with CDs, I think Brit cheated with the mix. But she is smart and I would do the same. If it couldn’t be a mix and had to be a cd, I’d go with a Journey, Aerosmith, or Bon Jovi CD. Greatest Hits anyone?
6. The biggest disaster I've ever encountered while traveling was On said honeymoon we were walking back from dinner in the pouring rain when the power went out. All of it. Walking in the pitch black trying to follow a path back to the room was tricky. No power meant no AC. Bummer.
7. My favorite traveling memory is They are all favorites. Each trip is meaningful in it’s own way.

Gimme some of your TOTS!
Well last night the heavens opened up and the rain came down. Too bad I had gone to the grocery store first and declared I would walk around the neighborhood after dinner vs. going straight to the gym when I got home. FAIL! Look at what happened to our backyard. We totally need to talk to the township about this. Happens whenever we have a big rain. A lake emerges.
So I thought my schedule had hit a brick wall. Actually, not so much. The sky cleared enough and the temps cooled down that I was able to convince Mr. Buckeye to walk with me. A walk around the block took 30 minutes, 2 epic hills up and 2 epic hills down. It was nice to just go walk. No treadmill beeping at me and no timer staring me straight in the face. So rather than a 20 min Run/Walk last night I enjoyed a 30 minute hilly walk with my husband. I’ll count it as a win!
Plus, What did I get at the grocery store? Tater Tots and stuff for Sloppy Joe’s! (No ManWich for this girl!) My first time making from “scratch” I think I did okay. I even put the green peppers in, and I don’t even like them. But I couldn’t taste them. And I used a bit of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ instead of brown sugar. We will just ignore the fact that Mr. Buckeye said all he could taste was green pepper. But he still ate it. So I know he was lying. It’s not my favorite but I’ll work on it. Simple, Easy, Quick, not terribly unhealthy. I’ll have to put it into rotation and keep tweaking till I love it.

Keep on Keepin' on
I've continued to feel better about everything.
I still have random moments where I'm down but not nearly as often and intense as they were the past few weeks.
To add to the up and up, we got our new hot water heater. I took my first HOT! shower in over a week this morning. Mr Buckeye did warn me it was hotter than the old one. YIKES! He was not kidding. But I lurve hot hot showers so it was all good news to me.
Add to that the fact that I not only have the back done on my Hey Teach Cardigan. But I now have the left front done as well. And modifying it to be a v-neck worked! I'm knitting on the right front now so at this rate I'll definitely have a cardi to wear by the end of June if not sooner!
And I may as well spill the beans while I'm at it. I've started running again. Well, you can't really call it running since I'm walking more than running. We all remember the disaster that was my last attempt. But I've modified a marathon schedule into what I believe will be a truly successful program for me. 21 weeks till Half Marathon time. Oct 17th. Write it down. I'll be there with bells and whistles! Maybe I can get Britt to make a fun button or something and hopefully join me! Even though she would totally rock my world right now and run circles around me since she can pound out solid 30 min runs like they are nothing right now!
But I'm not discouraged. We all have to start somewhere. And my program has me starting with 20 min walks that evolve to Walk/Runs that evolve to Runs that evole to MILES. 21 weeks seems like an eternity away but I'm confident that as long as I don't let me motivation slip away, I'll be a runner like the rest of them! And I won't get hurt this time!

Three!
I never did share any photos from my 2 favorite little people's birthday party.
And sadly, I don't have a bunch to share.
But seriously. They are getting too big. Way too big. They need to stop growing, like right now.
Birthday girl ready to party!
He's missing something- get the kid his sunglasses!
Dora and Thomas. Duh.
The wonderful woman who birthed these 2 babes. She. is. awesome. Oh and Dad is in the background there too. He's pretty cool too. Together, they make beautiful babies. Wouldn't you agree?

Recovery
Well folks, I’m back. Hopefully for the better, and hopefully for good.
This weekend was everything that I hoped it would be, and much needed. A bit of sun, friends, friend’s new babies, good food, flowers, rounded out with some knitting and rain. I couldn’t be happier.
We bought a flag, and it proudly hangs on our front porch. Above the 2 pots of flowers and once out of control but now neatly trimmed bushes. New flowers now line the edge of our garden and surround our mailbox. We didn’t plant last year and I kind of missed it. We will, however, ignore the fact that it was hotter than HADES and we were outside working for over 5 hours on Sunday. My hamstrings still burn today. But it’s done. And it looks lovely. So lovely in fact, that Mr. Buckeye and I sat on the front porch while the rain came pouring down. Yes, I was knitting in my rocking chair listening to the rain. And yes, I was wearing a long linen skirt. But no, I’m not 80. Yet.
Photos to come. Rain + camera = sad face. So provided the heavens stay closed today, I’ll snap away tonight.
And in other positive news, the new hot water heater will likely be installed today or tomorrow. The only time a cold shower works? After spending 5 hours in hotter than HADES weather. On a Tuesday morning while getting ready for work? Notsomuch.
This monster was out. of. control.
So I hacked it to pieces.
The bermuda grass took over the garden. and holy bushes!
MUCH better!
ignore that missing shutter up there... it's back now. Stupid wind.
Flag and potted plants photos to come!
